It will come as no surprise to any parent reading this article that schoolwear is seen by the majority as a grudge buy. You have to do it, you want to wait as long as possible but don’t want to risk the shop running out of uniform in your child’s size…
We felt exactly the same when our daughter started school, which was the catalyst for us to start researching the market further.
Currently 85% of schoolwear sales are done in store, only 15% online. It’s a statistic that bucks every trend in online shopping, so why? A quick trawl of school uniform suppliers across the internet and its fairly easy to see that many online shops are outdated and difficult to navigate and provide little practical information about sizing or fit.
Back in October 2018, we attended the Schoolwear Show, an exhibition for school uniform retailers. We learned a lot and came away inspired to create a better service for parents and schools.
In December 2018, we secured our first school. Exciting times followed as the headteacher decided to use this as an opportunity to make some well overdue changes to the uniform, including a re-design of the school logo.
With our support, the school ran a competition for pupils to design the new school logo. The winning logo was selected by a judging panel and the logo re-drawn by ourselves. The winner was then presented with the first new school jumper to be embroidered, along with a framed award.
The new uniform was launched, followed by the release of the new online ordering portal which is simple, informative and practical to use and also links in with Stikins – a name label printer who donate a percentage of their sales back to the school.
Now mid way through the summer holidays, we have received some fantastic customer feedback, on both our service and the products. We work closely with leading schoolwear manufacturer David Luke who supply our skirts and trousers which are made from 100% recycled polyester. Choosing suppliers with strong ethical and environmental values is important to us, and our customers.
We embroider 100% of the school uniforms ourselves. This means that if we are running low on stock, we can generally restock within 24 hours so parents should never face the situation of being left weeks without the uniform they need. We stock everything from socks to shirts, so other than school shoes, we can be a one-stop shop for parents looking for a simple way to buy school uniform. We deliver free to schools during term time and offer a free click and collect service. Home delivery is also available at a flat rate.
As well as our online service, customers are welcome to come in, try on and buy in our purpose built school shop area. Its accessible for prams, with changing rooms and free parking right outside.
